Directions - Sherlock Adaptation - Pre-production retrospective

A review of my pre production

in this short post I intend to examine what went wrong, what went right, and what i think of this.

  • cast and crew - I sourced my cast early, my crew has had trouble coming together however I am attempting to sort this out, and have been for some time.
  • locations - all the locations i contacted replied in negative, one location didnt reply until last monday, and with little time I have had to use uni accommodations again. this saddens me greatly, as i had wanted to set the film in a large, traditional classroom. The script has been rewritten to counter this chain of events.
  • scheduling - I decided to keep my scheduling fluid for this project, in knowledge of the equipment situation, when casting my actors I requested a week long period, in the knowledge that I may not be able to get my wanted equipment or crew members on a completely specific day, this has gone well, and while it wont work on larger productions, it has worked well for this one, and is something I need to remember for future projects.
  • equipment - I came to the equipment table rather late, however because of my hot-scheduling, I was able to get my preferred equipment for the period needed. and thanks to unexpected circumstances, I received better equipment than expected which made my day, and will aid in my coming shoot.
  • writing - over the course of this unit I have been performing fiction writing exercises, then posting them to my frequented fiction forums for read and review. This has helped my writing immensely, during proofreading i find far fewer errors, shortening the time taken by a significant amount. this has been a much valued, and positive change.

NOTE: More may come later, these are surface thoughts.
